Virtual Desktops - Using in a Lab/Classroom

VMware Horizon View is a program used to connect to virtual desktops so that you can access various programs.

If you need to use Horizon View to connect to a program, here are the instructions for:

Windows

Find the "VMware Horizon View Client" icon on the Desktop or start menu and run it:

  1. Horizon View should start up and automatically log you in
  2. Users should see a list of "pools" to choose from to access various programs
  3. Select the appropriate desktop and connect to it
  4. You will be connecting to another computer and the connection runs just like any other program.
  5. You can minimize the connection, put it in windowed mode, or logoff of the virtual desktop while still using the physical computer in front of you.

Mac

  1. Find the "VMware Horizon View Client" in the applications menu and run it
  2. If prompted, sign in using your North Park credentials
  3. Users should see a list of "pools" to choose from to access various programs
  4. Select the appropriate desktop and connect to it
  5. You will be connecting to another computer and the connection runs just like any other program.
  6. You can minimize the connection, put it in windowed mode, or logoff of the virtual desktop while still using the physical computer in front of you.

Troubleshooting

If the Horizon View Client is blank when you start it up then you may need to enter the connection server.

  1. Click "add server" if that button exists and then enter view.northpark.edu as the server.
