Exeter Migration

Before OneDrive and other cloud storage options, North Park provided users with a storage option commonly known as “z-drive.” Faculty, staff, and students were able to access an on-campus server called “Exeter” via University computers.

While most people no longer use (or even know about) this location it still exists. If you have never used your z-drive storage, or are certain that you have already migrated all that content, then there is nothing more you need to do.

If you still need to migrate that content, or are unsure, please see the following instructions. Please contact IT Support Services via the helpdesk with questions or to set up a meeting with a staff member.

 Instructions

First, check to see if you have content on your z-drive/Exeter. Employees should use their University computer and be on campus. Students should use an University computer on campus.

Windows Computers

  1. Open a File Explorer Window

  2. In the address bar, type “\\exeter\username$” without quotes and where username is your username (without the @northpark.edu).

Apple Computers

  1. Open a Finder window

  2. Navigate to “Go” in the top navigation bar, then “Connect to Server” (or press ⌘ K)

  3. Where it asks for Server Address, type “smb://exeter/username$” without quotes and where username is your username (without the @northpark.edu).

  4. If prompted, enter your current University username and/or password.

Browse any files/folders you may have in Exeter. If you know where and how you would like to save these files please do so. If you would like guidance or help migrating these files please contact IT Support Services via the helpdesk.

Migration and OneDrive

University students, faculty, and staff now have access to Microsoft OneDrive which provides virtually unlimited cloud storage that is accessible from a variety of devices from almost anywhere. IT recommends that you use this to store University files.

Students, you can sync OneDrive and other Office applications to your personal device(s).

Employees, your University computer (Windows or Apple) can and should sync with OneDrive automatically.

Exeter and personal z-drives will be phased out by the end of 2023, so it is important that users with information stored there remove it as soon as possible to avoid data loss.
