Scantron How-to (Remark Classic OMR)

Quick Reference Guide

For Remark Classic OMR Data Center

Administer the Test

Ensure that each respondent enters his/her name into the section for Name (in the format of LAST FIRST M.I.) and his/her student ID into the section for Identification Number, such that the first digit is in the leftmost column of each section’s grid.

[Optional] Complete the Key Sheet

If you wish to grade respondent sheets according to a key, complete one key sheet for each subtest. Each key sheet should have an appropriate title in the section for Name (e.g., “KEY”), along with any other fields that you deem necessary.

Prepare the Scanner and Scantron Forms

  1. Ensure that the scanner’s connector is securely attached to the serial port on the computer.
  2. Arrange the forms so that the Key Sheet is topmost (if applicable), followed by the respondent answer sheets. For the "name" in the answer key, make it "A" on the form so that when you alphabetize the names later the answer key will still be on top.
  3. Place the forms in the input hopper of the scanner.

Answer key name

It is very important that that your answer key comes out on top after you alphabetize all the entries. Please fill in the name on the answer key as "A".

  3. Once the scanner has completed scanning all forms in its input hopper, OMR Data Center will ask if you wish to continue scanning pages. Unless you have additional respondent answer sheets for the given Key Sheet, you may choose “No”.
  4. Click on the “Analysis” tab and then on “Easy Grade”.
  5. In the window that appears, click on “Display reports” (under Reports), and pick a pertinent report. The most basic report is named “101 – Student Statistics Report”.

  2. If you wish to export the data, click on the “Data” tab and then open up the "file" menu at the top of the screen. In the file menu select "Export" and then "Numeric Data." Change the save location to somewhere on your Z-drive, by double-clicking on Computer and then on the “Z:” drive (located in the bottom of that list). Enter the file name and any other necessary information (if applicable). For example, Excel formats require that a value is entered for Sheet Name.
